Assignments for March 16th, 2026

Explorations in British Literature
We watched the BBC movie for some of the characters we had already read about. We saw Mr. Fang, the cruel magistrate, and watched the romance of Mr. Bumble and Mrs. Corney, the widow, blossom. Each was after what would benefit him/her specifically. Marriage was such an economic relationship, not a love relationship. Then we went over the study guide questions for today’s reading and took Quiz #4.
Next week, read the following:
- Oliver Twist — Chapters 41–53
- Study Guide Questions — Pages 16-19
We will finish the book this week and be ready for the Jeopardy review and final test on March 23. It may be a surprise ending for you! Dickens does manage to bring all of the characters together and end all loose ends.
American History
We went over Chapter 24 and what you needed to know from the Chapter Review. Then we went over your homework, the crossword puzzle on Theodore Roosevelt. We then divided into two teams and reviewed the Presidents and other important characters that we have learned so far.
For next week, read pages 388-400 in Chapter 25—World War II. We will have a quiz on the whole chapter the second Monday after Spring Break. (April 13) Next week, we have our Presidents reports by Amelia, Natalie, Connor, Cohen, Annie B., Nate, and Annie G.
In preparation for the reports, watch the following one-minute videos.
William McKinley
Theodore Roosevelt
William Taft
Woodrow Wilson
Warren Harding
Calvin Coolidge
Herbert Hoover
No-Spin Economics
We checked on who was missing tests and then began our study of U.S. bills. We went over the currency and had fun locating the microprinting and the watermarks. We searched the one, two, five, ten, twenty, fifty, and hundred dollar bills. Next week, we will have a quiz on the Coins and Currency. Study the sheet I gave you which will include 2 matching sections on the obverse and reverse sides of the coins and the bills. Then there will be 15 True/False questions from the information given on the Coins and Currency Sheet, the One Dollar Bill sheet, and the One Hundred dollar bill sheets you were given in class. It’s amazing what the creators of the bills have changed to prevent counterfeiting! Now, you know why the cashiers hold the bill up to the light to check it.
Then, we will review Crash Course Economics #3 and cover Crash Course Economics #5 on Macroeconomics for our quiz on Crash Course #3 and Crash Course #5 on Monday, March 23. Just study the sheets you were given. Keep them in your notebook. Keep all of the Penny Candy sheets together and all of the Crash Course sheets together as well. (Don’t forget to keep all of the quizzes and tests too.)
Quick Looks at Great Books
We played a game of charades to review the many characters in the book. Then we went over the questions for Quiz #4 and took the quiz. Be sure to finish the book by next week. We will go over all the study guide questions through #105. We will have a review of the book with a Family Feud game. We will be ready for our Jeopardy review and final test on March 23. Next week, we will also go over some of my experiences on a Count of Monte Cristo cruise and discuss the video of the Carnival in Venice, Italy now. If you forgot to watch it, check last week’s assignment at the bottom of this page.
Debate
Next week, we will have our JFK debate. Hopefully, you have learned a little bit about one of history’s greatest conflicts. Don’t forget to time your presentation and plan for your time-outs. (2 minutes per team) Remember that you are trying to persuade the judges to vote your way and for your side, Be convincing with your presentation.
