Assignments for October 19th, 2026

American History
Today, we went over the test from last week (Chapters 1-3), and reviewed the terms on the Chapter Review of Chapter 4. Then I told the “story” of Chapter 5 and the Chapter Review of the chapter they read for today. (Chapter 5)
Next week, we will have Quiz #2 which includes Chapter 4 and just a few questions from Chapter 5. This should help them prepare for our next test on Chapters 4-6. Also, read Chapter 6 for next week. (The War for Independence)
Watch this short video about the life of Benedict Arnold.
U.S. Government
We went over last week’s quiz and the things that they needed to know for the quiz today. Then we took Quiz #3 on the Constitution and the Amendments. We also went over the Electoral College, and I gave them a sheet to study with notes from the Power Point. Next week, we will have a 10 question True/False quiz on the Electoral College and the following video.
We also played a game to illustrate how the Electoral College works. Also, complete Lessons 9 and 10 on the two major American Political Parties. Here are the answers to Lesson 9: The Republican Party and Lesson 10: The Democrat Party.
Quick Looks at Great Books
Today we watched the BBC video and saw the murder of Marquis de St. Evremonde. We finished going over the Study Guide questions for last week’s reading and started on the questions for today. We should catch up with reading and watching next week because you have the shortest reading of the book for this week: Chapters 20-24 of Book II — A Golden Thread. Answer the study guide questions 53-58. (Page 47 in your purple study guide.)
Adventures in American Literature
We went through all of today’s homework and as well as discussing page 43 in groups.
For next week, read pages 47 and 48 on the Legendary Lumberjack Paul Bunyan and complete the columns on page 48, read and answer the questions on page 49 on the poem about Johnny Appleseed by Vachel Lindsay, read the “brags” by Mike Fink and Davy Crockett and answer the questions about them on pages 50 and 51.
(You don’t need to do Part B.) Also, don’t forget the oral report you were assigned on two tall tales characters. (This is an easy quiz grade!) We will also have our first quiz next week on pages 9-26.
